Opinion of historian De Lacy O’Leary. The best reply to the misconception that Islam was spread by the sword is given by the noted historian De Lacy O’Leary in the book "Islam at the cross road" (Page 8): "History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myth that historians have ever repeated."

This thought is wrong. This opinion is not based on a strong evidence. What evidence that says that Islam is spread by the sword. If we Muslims are allowed to spread Islam by the point of the sword there would not be a single Non-Muslims in this world.

1.We Muslims have conquered Andalusia(Spain) for 800 years. If we can, we can forced every Non-Muslims in Spain to convert to Islam. But we did not do it.There is still population of Christians in Spain now.

2.Do you know today that there 14 million Arab which are Coptic Christians(Christians since generation) If the Muslims wanted we would force every Christians to convert to Islam. But we did not do it.

3.You know that Indonesia has the largest population of Muslims in the world.Which Muslim army went to Indonesia? There is no Muslim army went to Indonesia. No such thing.Which Muslim army went to Malaysia which have 55% of their population of Muslims? Which army?

4.Furthermore,We Muslims are forbidden to spread Islam by force. This is clearly stated in the Holy Quran Surah Al-Baqarah Chapter 2 Verse 256: " "Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from error"

5.We know that fastest growing religion in America is Islam.Which war that forced the Americans to embraced Islam?

6.Increase in the world religions from 1934 to 1984. An article in Reader’s Digest ‘Almanac’, year book 1986, gave the statistics of the increase of percentage of the major religions of the world in half a century from 1934 to 1984. This article also appeared in ‘The Plain Truth’ magazine. At the top was Islam, which increased by 235%, and Christianity had increased only by 47%. May one ask, which war took place in this century which converted millions of people to Islam?

Therefore it is true that Islam is not spread by the sword.
